Kenyan Standards (KS);

International standards mutually recognized by Kenya (such as ISO, IEC, EN, BS, etc.);

National standards or industrial standards of exporting countries recognized by KEBS (equivalence to KS standards shall be demonstrated).

1. Submit Application

Submit the application to the authorized body of KEBS with the following documents:

• Fully completed application form (including product name, model, quantity, HS code and other information);

• Product manual, technical specification sheet, circuit diagram (if applicable);

• Product photos (clearly showing brand, model, compliance marks, country of origin, etc.);

• Valid test report (issued by an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, covering key product indicators, generally valid for 1-2 years);

• Commercial invoice (proforma or official), packing list;

• Business license or registration certificate of the importer in Kenya (if available).

2. Document Review

• The certification body reviews the submitted documents to verify whether the test report complies with Kenyan standard requirements and whether the technical documents are complete. If the documents are non-compliant, supplementary materials or rectification shall be carried out (such as retesting, revising technical documents).

3. On-site Inspection (Mandatory)

All products applying for PVOC are subject to pre-shipment on-site inspection. Inspectors assigned by the certification body will verify the following items:

• Consistency between goods and test samples (brand, model, specification, etc.);

• Compliance of product marking (such as KS mark, country of origin, safety warnings, etc.);

• Intact packaging and availability of necessary manuals (English or Swahili required for certain products).

4. Issue COC Certificate

• After document review and on-site inspection are passed, the certification body will issue the Certificate of Conformity (COC), the final document for PVOC certification, within 3-5 working days. The information on the certificate shall be consistent with customs clearance documents (invoice, bill of lading), otherwise customs clearance may be affected.
