To survive in today's fiercely competitive global market, organizations must actively manage all types of risks, and occupational health and safety issues of enterprises are no exception.

Released by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in March 2018, ISO 45001 marks an important milestone in improving global occupational health and safety standards

worldwide.

The new standard enables organizations to proactively improve injury prevention and reduce ill health, supporting the sustainable survival of organizations.

With increasing globalization and global trade, stakeholders expect organizations to conduct business ethically in all aspects of operations, especially in the way they treat their

employees.

ISO 45001 provides these organizations with an internationally recognized occupational health and safety standard to follow. The standard not only specifies formal systematic specifications for analyzing and managing risks,

but also sets norms for managing regulatory compliance, enhancing workplace safety and evaluating occupational health and safety performance. These systematic approaches

help reduce the number of accidents and ultimately mitigate business threats.

More than 50 countries and organizations including the International Labour Organization (ILO) have participated in the development of ISO 45001 to meet international demands and requirements. Its objective is to provide

a tool usable by organizations in any industry and applicable across the globe.

ISO 45001 supersedes OHSAS 18001, first issued in 1999 and revised in 2007, becoming the primary international standard for OH&S management systems.

Organizations currently holding OHSAS 18001 certificates are granted a three-year transition period for recertification to comply with the requirements of ISO 45001.
