Green Factory Assessment

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, to implement Made in China 2025 and the Guidelines for the Implementation of Green Manufacturing Project (2016-2020) and accelerate the advancement of green manufacturing, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued the Circular of the General Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Launching the Development of Green Manufacturing System in September 2016, deciding to carry out the development of the green manufacturing system.

It aims to boost the green development of the whole industrial chain and the full life cycle of products. With enterprises as the main body of development and an open and transparent third-party evaluation mechanism and standard system as the foundation to ensure standardization and consistency in developing the green manufacturing system, the system mainly covers green factories, green products, green industrial parks and green supply chains.

A green factory is a production unit of the manufacturing industry and the implementing entity of green manufacturing, serving as the core supporting unit of the green manufacturing system, with focus on the greening of production processes.

Green factory recognition demonstrates that an industrial enterprise takes a leading position in the industry in energy conservation, environmental protection and green development. Evaluated and reported level by level by competent industry and information technology authorities, certified enterprises can obtain financial incentives or policy support, which acts as a catalyst driving corporate development.

Relevant Standards

The Circular on Launching the Development of Green Manufacturing System and Evaluation Requirements for Green Factories issued by MIIT specify the evaluation indicator framework, evaluation basis, evaluation methods and requirements of evaluation indicators for green factories.

GB/T 36132-2018 General Principles for Evaluation of Green Factories specifies the indicator system and general requirements for green factory evaluation. The General Principles apply to factories with practical production processes such as processing, manufacturing and assembly. It can serve as the general requirement for industrial sectors to formulate green factory evaluation standards or specific requirements, and is the first national standard in the field of green factories in China.
