ESD certification means that an enterprise passes certification audits conducted by third-party certification bodies recognized by ESDA and/or IECQ to prove compliance with the requirements of ANSI/ESD S20.20 and/or IEC 61340-5-1 standards.

ANSI/ESD S20.20 is an electrostatic discharge control management system standard developed by ESDA based on military and industrial experience in protecting ESDS items. It was initially released as ANSI/ESD S20.20-1999 on August 4, 1999, revised into ANSI/ESD S20.20-2007 on February 11, 2007. The currently valid version is ANSI/ESD S20.20-2014 revised and issued again on June 11, 2014. ANSI (American National Standards Institute) is one of the permanent members of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), as well as a member of IAF (International Accreditation Forum).

IEC 61340-5-1 is an electrostatic discharge control management system standard published by the IEC. It was first issued as IEC TS 61340-5-1:1998 on December 15, 1998, updated to IEC 61340-5-1:2007 on August 9, 2007. The latest edition is IEC 61340-5-1:2016 revised and released on May 27, 2016.
