ISO 3834 Welding System Certification targets the special process of welding. It requires enterprises to integrate design, process, production and quality assurance to establish a mature system so as to meet the final quality requirements of products. Developed on the basis of ISO 9001 and combined with practical welding application conditions, ISO 3834 certification specifies welding quality requirements that shall be covered by a welding quality assurance system.

ISO 3834 consists of three parts:

Part 1 provides criteria for selecting the corresponding quality requirement level. In accordance with product standards, specifications, codes or contracts, ISO 3834-2, ISO 3834-3 or ISO 3834-4 shall be selected based on the level of quality requirements.

Part 2 sets out quality requirements for different levels, namely ISO 3834-2 Full quality requirements, ISO 3834-3 Standard quality requirements and ISO 3834-4 Elementary quality requirements. Where a manufacturer complies with a specific quality level (e.g. ISO 3834-2), it shall be deemed to satisfy all lower quality level requirements (e.g. ISO 3834-3 or ISO 3834-4) without further verification.

Part 3 covers documentation required to demonstrate compliance with each part, i.e. documents needed to verify conformance with the quality requirements of ISO 3834-2, ISO 3834-3 or ISO 3834-4.
